Daddy & Me Competition
The Daddy & ME is AFCJ’s annual Father’s Day competition. The competition sought to raise awareness about absenteeism in Jamaica whilst showing appreciation to the fathers that are playing an active role in the lives of their child/children. Currently, in Jamaica, the entire country raves when mother’s day comes about, however, Father’s Day sometimes goes unnoticed. Consequently, the competition was geared at satisfying the need for expression of gratitude to the fathers who are doing well as a parent in our country. Not only is the competition being utilized to show an appreciation to fathers across the island, our result also indicated that it had helped to inspire fathers to continue doing their active role, or if they haven’t started just yet to get on the ball, whilst allowing Jamaicans to have an appreciation for them, by ruining the ‘dead-beat daddy’ image that some Jamaicans seem to think is synonymous with rearing a child. The competition also drove our efforts to build social media and community presence.
